Where is the year going!!

Wow, April is at an end already!! this year is going so quickly (no that isn't just an excuse for not having written a blog for so long!) So what have I been up to for the last 3 months? Well I renewed my visa, although they only gave me 1 year this year rather than the normal 2, however I am trusting that God knows why and is in control of everything!

El Refugio
Lia with 2 small group kids, Dana and Yulissa
We now have 9 kids in the small group program, 3 of whom are new to El Refugio so it is quite a challenge with these girls who are not used to the discipline and respect etc that we expect, also we have 3 younger siblings of previous small group members, in whom we are seeing various family traits in terms of behaviour and reactions which is quite interesting, and we have the other 3 who have continued on from last year. The dynamic is generally good, however they do have their moments!

At the zoo with Bella last year
Next Wednesday (7th) we are taking them out of Cartagena for the first time, we are going to neighbouring Barranquilla to the zoo and then the museum of the Caribbean. It will mean getting up early as at 6.30am we are leaving on a bus, 11 kids and 5 adults to make the 90min trip in order to get around and back to Cartagena by middle of the afternoon. I am looking forward to the trip with some trepidation but I know it will be fun and as you can imagine the kids are very excited.

Talking of getting up early, on Easter Sunday we had our annual Resurrection service at 5am, it never fails to amaze me how many kids will get up at this time in the morning and walk the 20 mins to the church where we hold the service, although the last 2 yrs, since changing to Sunday rather than Thursday there has been lower attendance, but still over 40 kids.

This is the current working title for the project I am developing, however, this too has been on hold slightly as I have been helping with the English school for YWAM on Wednesdays, the day I am designated to work on my plans. Also, I have been blocked as the contacts I am trying to make have not been answering their phones nor my emails! however after much prayer and some interesting conversations this last week I have a couple of new leads I am following up, I will share more as I see if they come to anything! But please keep this project in your prayers as it is not easy working solo on anything, especially not on something like this,

Personally
This last 3 months has been an interesting one with many challenges and blessings, adapting to the new work team has been hard, with some personality clashes and things not being done the way "they have always been done" nothing major just a few little things like keys not being in the right place! but generally things are good and I am content with where I am personally, although things could be improved spiritually but I am working on that!

Thank you for all your love and support via emails, posts, calls and prayers

Love you all
Petra
