Parties Galore

Ever since I heard about the Latino tradition of the "QinceaƱos" I have dreamt of giving this experience to the girls God had called me to work with. The Quince is the celebration of a latin girls transition into adulthood at the age of 15, it is kind of like the "Coming out ball" we have in British culture where the girl is presented into society and receives a blessing from her father. Done correctly the Quince party resembles a wedding without a groom, big dress, large cake, posh party with all the trimmings, obviously well beyond the reach of the girls of Loma Fresca. However, this year 7 of our young girls are turning 15, therefore we have committed to hosting just such a party for them. We have contacted the fathers who are writing speeches of blessings for their daughters, and together buying the cake, I have been asking around churches and YWAMers and YWAMers churches to find 17 dresses that the girls can choose from, Larissa has been plotting with myself and Rosa, the decoration and has made the invites and all that is left is to arrange the food, table settings and the band, with just one week to go until the big day.

However of course the these also cost money. So I am asking if anyone would be able to help with the cost of the food, it will cost £150 for the food, plates, glasses, table cloths and everything else, if  you would be able to help with this please contact me asap.

Also next week we are having our first every "Family Day" we are borrowing the local high school for the morning on Monday which is a bank holiday here, and will be inviting all of the children, young people and their families to join us for a day of hanging out together as families playing games and eating food which some of the mums will be selling at cost price. Please keep this day in your prayers as often there is conflicts within and between families, please pray that the day really will be "Fun for all the Family"

I am really excited about both of these events and both really mean a lot to me, memories of spending time with my family at sports days and summer fairs are precious to me so to be able to give this memory to our children is precious, also I know that if I was raised latina I would have spent my first 14 years dreaming about my Quince - imagine if you found out you weren't going to have a prom?

Next week I will post a long blog with lots of pics of both events, until then Goodbye and thanks for your support.
