Sun Sea Sunburn and Skype

Well I am writing this blog a little early while waiting for the youth group back at Swan Bank church to skype me. They are having an informal night in their pyjamas for comic relief, so I am sat here in the back garden well building site, in my PJs waiting for the call to go live. I am very grateful for YouTube, and the BBC channel there which has meant I have been able to see all the "best bits" from Friday night here, the internet is a wonderful thing. Through it I can keep in touch with all of you lovely people back there as well as the cultural events such as Red Nose Day. Also, thanks to the generosity of friends I can do all that while drinking tea and eating Cadburies!

So what has happened this week, well I have had quite a bad week as far as burns go, on Tuesday I burnt myself on the exhaust of a Moto-taxi as I was coming back from teaching the English school, thankfully it isn't as bad as many Colombians and others who live here, all of whom seem to have a scar from the same thing! Then on Saturday we had a fun day with the whole of YWAM Cartagena at the beach and I managed to get sunburnt, - why is it no matter how careful you are you always miss some bits, this time the middle of my back and my left foot!!

However, the day itself was a great time, hanging out with YWAMers from all of the other ministries and schools who we normally only get to see for a couple of hours on a Sunday night. We had a bit of a sports day with the different ministries competing in various events including our offering the sack and wheelbarrow race, well we are a children's ministry!! Johanna and I came 3rd in the wheelbarrow race, which doesn't sound so impressive when there were only 4 participants and the 4th didn't finish!! then later on the El Refugio girls were called on to take on the university ministry girls in a tug of war, we put up a good fight but alas lost in the end. In fact the only winner amongst us was Larissa who won the sandcastle building competition with a good replica of the Castillo de San Felipe one of our many landmarks. After all the fun and games there was lunch and time to hang out together and sunbath or swim. The only down side for me was that, as is Latino tradition, we started at 8am so had to be up at 7am :(

Well I have now spoken to the youth group, it was great to hear that there are so many people there tonight and several of them are new. I look forward to meeting you all when I am next home. Now it is time to get ready to head to the base meeting, God bless you all, until next time.

Petra
